"Columbus" is one of Joaquin Miller's best remembered poems.
He was born in a covered wagon somewhere on the frontier and held many posts during
his lifetime. Some of those positions included pony express rider, judge, lawyer,
miner, and editor. He wrote "Columbus" as a tribute to the dedication to
purpose of Columbus and his men. Even though there was no guarantee of finding the
East Indies they ventured into uncharted seas with the hope of expanding their horizons.
May we be as bold and undaunted in our search of New Worlds!
