These are my musings on how American Humorist Will Rogers would look at today's events.
Will had a way of looking at things that helped others reevaluate their perspective on
some very serious matters. When the nation was in the dark despair of the
"Great Depression" Will helped us laugh and learn and occasionally lament about
some of the things that we might otherwise take for granted. Yet by taking the time
to think about these things we gain a fresh outlook and come away with lifted spirits and,
often, renewed ambition for life and living.
His positive (mostly) yet pointed observations were taken in the spirit of good natured
ribbing and that is the flavor I strive to or in this periodical. It may sound
presumptuous to think that anyone could hope to write in the style of the great Will
Rogers and I want to assure you that my humble attempts aren't meant to be a replacement
for anything but empty pages. But if you think about it, how often have you heard
someone speak of another who has passed on and asked, "What would so-and-so do in
this situation?" Heck, we even have bumper stickers that ask, "What would
Jesus do?" Well, Will gave us plenty of examples of what he would do in various
situations and hopefully you will recognize his "witsdom" in my writings.
And if your wheels start whirling around as a result of reading these articles then maybe,
just maybe, I will have brought Will back to life for one more day.
At any rate, the world has not diminished its wealth of topics to look at with an
eyebrow raised and the head cocked to one side. There is more benefit than first
thought by taking our eyes off the treadmill now and then. We need to renew our
vision and refocus with a rejuvenated sense of purpose. Sometimes we take a physical
vacation for that very reason. I think we need a lot of mental and emotional
vacations to provide us the recreation to return to our work refreshed.
