There are a lot of ways to recycle used 8.5 X 11" printing paper but this one
actually gives it purpose before it is ultimately shredded and recycled. If you have a lot
of paper that has been printed on only one side use this file to create 4 separate
"To Do" lists. Copy or print this file onto the blank sides. Then cut the sheets
into four separate piles; staple them, glue them, or just clamp them to make a tablet.
Charles Schwab once paid Ivy Lee $12,000.00 for this concept. He asked Ivy, an efficiency
expert, to come up with an idea for helping Charles' staff become more productive. Ivy
observed the operation for a period of time and then offered the suggestion of using
"To Do" lists to help keep them on track. He told Mr. Schwab to have every one
prioritize their lists in order of importance for that day and then work on the most
important item until it was completed. Then move on to the next item and work on that one
until it was completed. Continue to repeat the process until all items on the list are
completed and then make a new list.
Charles asked Mr. Lee how much he owed him for this simple suggestion. Ivy told him to try
it out for a few weeks and then pay him what he thought it was worth. Apparently it
provided Charles Schwab enormous value because this was back in the 1930s when $12,000.00
was worth a lot more than it is today!
